JOEL & CHERYL BARUCH

Community Service Award

Outstanding examples of what it means to constantly think about others, Joel and Cheryl Baruch are most fitting recipients of this year’s Community Service Award. Longstanding members of the Woodmere community, they engage in daily chesed while at work.

Joel regularly provides food for families in need through his store Gotta Getta Bagel. Nothing remaining in the store at the end of the day ever goes to waste, as Joel goes to the trouble of finding fitting recipients for every delicious morsel. Local rabbanim and laypeople know they can always turn to him for help – and in his trademark understated way, Joel is happy to be there for others, whether helping to make a bris for a needy family or providing food to local shuls and schools.

Cheryl is a devoted administrator at Kulanu, ensuring the success of the many programs and services the organization offers for the special-needs community. Joel has partnered with Cheryl in spreading his chesed efforts here as well, donating food regularly for Kulanu Academy’s breakfasts and other special events and activities.

The Baruchs’ dedication to chesed has trickled down to their children as well. Their daughter Ashley, a graduate of HAFTR, has been a steady volunteer for Tomchei Shabbos, and their son Benjamin, who currently attends Rambam, volunteers at Kulanu, working with special-needs children. Their youngest son Abraham is a student at HAFTR Middle School.

Joel and Cheryl exemplify the Achiezer message of always being there for those in need. While they shy away from the limelight, they are exceptional role models of commitment to chesed and the welfare of others.

Achiezer is proud to present them with the Community Service Award.
