Achiezer COVID-19 Update Monday 3/23 4PM
March 23, 2020
Dear Community,

As another week begins, we wish to provide a clear and concise update on the status of COVID-19 in our community, updated guidelines and various services available to the community.

As reported last week, there are hundreds of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the community and many other symptomatic patients. There are several community members under age 50, including babies, who have been hospitalized. It is now assumed that all people in Far Rockaway and Five Towns who have recently developed symptoms of fever, cough, fatigue, or severe body aches (it is important to note that other symptoms including sore throat, severe headache, loss of sense of smell or taste, eye pain, or abdominal complaints may be the initial, or only, symptom in certain people) are infected with COVID-19. If your physician feels that a test is still required, then you may try and reach out to the following two phone numbers for assistance:

Go Health Urgent Care, Lynbrook: (516) 441-2155
Jones Beach Drive Through COVID-19 Testing: (888) 364-3065

Do not arrive at these locations without calling ahead and receiving an assigned appointment.

QUARANTINE PROCEDURES:
It is now even more important for us not to let our guard down and continue to do all we can to slow the spread of the virus. We have been advised by several guiding physicians that the closure of shuls, schools and other establishments as well as the quarantine precautions which many are taking can have a direct impact on the continuing spread of the disease. To that end, please see our home page for detailed updated quarantine guidelines. It is important that they be read in their entirety.
For those that still have case-by-case questions regarding their specific quarantine scenario and are unable to reach their primary care physician (or do not have a primary care physician), please direct your inquiries to covid19@achiezer.org or call (919)727-4747 and your inquiry will be processed by a team of physicians, PA's and nurses who will respond as expeditiously as possible.

VOLUNTEERS:
Thankfully, thousands in the community are adhering to quarantine guidelines and many elderly and vulnerable individuals are remaining at home. This is creating a need for volunteers within the community (who, of course are, healthy, not infected, symptomatic, or in quarantine) to assist this population with deliveries of essential items and emergency supplies. If you are able to assist in this effort, please send an email to arosenberg@achiezer.org and you will be put to work. Please note that, we are only accepting volunteers under the age of 60. We also express our deep appreciation to those who have stepped forward to assist thus far.

ELDERLY AND IMMUNOCOMPROMISED:
We continuously implore the elderly and immunocompromised population to remain at home, at all costs. If you are aware of an elderly individual who may require assistance but is unable or unaware that they can reach out to us, please email blowinger@achiezer.org or call (516) 791-4444 ext. 108.

SHOPPING ASSISTANCE:
After extensive discussions with Gourmet Glatt, we realized the community-wide need of having food delivered to those who cannot leave their homes. The staff needed to carry this out is non-existent due to more grocery workers coming down with the virus. Achiezer has appointed a community-wide coordinator, who has reached out to every shul in the community to identify those who require shopping assistance and will coordinate delivery utilizing volunteers. For any questions related to this, please contact Aryeh.young@gmail.com. If you have not yet been contacted by a shul representative and are in need of this service immediately, please contact arosenberg@achiezer.org and she will assist you in coordinating this.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
A community-wide fund has now been launched to assist community members whose paycheck has been affected or lost due to COVID-19. We hope to dispense emergency stipends to assist with Pesach needs in the next week. Stay tuned to your shul communications, where you should receive instructions on how to access this fund.

CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMING:
Tune in today at 4:00 PM at www.achiezer.org/kids for a 45 minute show with Magic by Chaim Syltig! The children are sure to enjoy!

MENTAL HEALTH GUIDANCE:
We understand that many in the community are dealing with anxiety and other emotional difficulties due to the ongoing epidemic. You are not alone. A group of mental health professionals has been assembled and can be reached at (516) 791-4444 ext. 108.

We hope that the foregoing answers many of your questions and that each of us has the wherewithal to get through this trying time.

We understand that case-specific questions may exist - feel free to reach out to the Achiezer team by replying to this email and we will do our best to assist.

With tefilos for good health and refuos for those who need it,

Team Achiezer
