EREV SHABBOS UPDATE
November 16th, 2012



As our community continues to push forward and rebuild our homes, properties and lives, we understand that there is still much to be done and many that still require assistance. The update below is a bit extensive but we think you will find the information both important and useful. Should you require any assistance not covered in this update, you may call our office at any time, 516-791-4444. Our urgent hotline is manned as always 24 hours a day.

HOUSING

Anyone who does not have proper housing on a temporary basis due to the storm should please contact our office as soon as possible and we will be happy to coordinate arrangements for you.

We would like to thank our community members for the overwhelming response to our recent request for additional local housing. If you know of any private homes available on a short term basis, please contact our office.

ERUV

The Bayswater and Far Rockaway Eruv will be operative for Shabbos.

The Eruv is operational in the Five Towns, however, please note the updates for the following areas:

Lawrence (south of Broadway): There are still significant and the area will be checked again later today to determine whether the Eruv will be operational.

Woodsburgh: There are repairs undergoing as of now the Eruv should be up for Shabbos.

Hewlett: Hewlett Neck and Hewlett Bay Park are still not up.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Anyone who requires financial assistance from the CAF (Community Assistance Fund) which is being administered by the David Memorial Fund in conjunction with Achiezer should email the fund directly at communityassistancefund@gmail.com and they will try their best to respond to your requests within 24-48 hours. Applications and further information regarding the Phase II Rebuilding Program which will enable homeowners to get back into their homes may be picked up from the mailbox at 25 Lawrence Avenue in Lawrence. Completed applications can be left in that mailbox as well. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Dov Geller at (516) 295-0296.

Please be advised that there are fund representatives in every shul throughout the neighborhood. If you need further information on who to contact, please email the CAF directly.

CLEANUP

Our final group of volunteers will be available to assist with cleanup this Sunday for schlepping, moving furniture and the like. If anyone still requires assistance email us at info@achiezer.org or call our office to schedule.

CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANCE

A group of community members have arranged to assist anyone who requires sheetrock removal, electricians, plumbers, boilers and any other construction guidance necessary. Please contact them directly with all of your questions at 516-508-9999.

VOLUNTEERS

We would like to thank all of our volunteers who have been assisting us. Anyone who still is able to volunteer and assist further, should please email info@achiezer.org and advise of their availability.

HEATERS

Thanks to Rabbi David Bibi from Long Beach we have space heaters available for anyone in the community who requires. Please contact our office with your request.

SHAIMOS

Our third and final truck for shaimos pickup is at Shor Yoshuv through Sunday at 5pm. Please bring all remaining shaimos there as soon as possible.

COMMUNITY-UNITED CHIZUK EVENT

The united Five Towns/Far Rockaway/Bayswater community will join together for continued strength and direction during this challenging time. The event will be held this Sunday, November 18th at 12pm at the White Shul located at 728 Empire Avenue, for men and women with Divrei bracha and chizuk. The event will be chaired by Rabbi Eytan Feiner with featured speakers, Rabbi Asher Weiss and Rabbi Paysach Krohn. Tehillim and Acheinu by Rabbi Raphael Pelcovitz and Rabbi Yaakov Reisman.
